PROFESSIONAL SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Douglas S. Fry, DDS
Lovingly referred to as āDr. French Fryā by our young patients, Dr. Douglas S. Fry, DDS has been practicing dentistry for over 40 years, nearly 30 years in pediatric dentistry. He is one of Wilmingtonās original pediatric dentists, with decades of experience caring for all types of dental needs. After several years of work in general dentistry, Dr. Fry discovered that his real interest was in caring for children.
Dr. Douglas S. Fry, DDS is in private practice of pediatric dentistry in Wilmington, NC, where he established Sunshine Childrenās Dentistry. He provides dental health care services for children and special needs patients from birth until adolescence. He is trained in the appropriate use of CO2 Lasers for patients, especially those with lip ties and tongue ties. He delivers dental care for all pediatric dental procedures in a safe, caring, and friendly environment.
He employs the latest in new and dental equipment. In office procedures employ behavior management skills such as tell-show-do and appropriate age expected outcomes; nitrous oxide analgesia, and local anesthesia. Extensive and necessary treatment requiring general anesthesia is performed at NHRMC under the direct care of a certified and properly licensed anesthesiologist. Sunshine Childrenās Dentistry employs a nationally recognized Healthcare Compliance Resource company to inspect and management all of the procedures and codes to meet State and Federal requirements.
Dr. Douglas S. Fry, DDS is a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Fry is a graduate of Emory University, Atlanta, GA, with a BA Degree in Biology; The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, Memphis, TN, with a DDS Degree; and a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Lincoln and Omaha, NE.
Dr. Fry holds membership in organized dentistry being a member of the Cape Fear Dental Study Club (formerly the Wilmington Tri-County Dental Society of which he is a past president); the First District and the North Carolina Dental Society; and the American Dental Association. He also is a member in organized pediatric dentistry belonging to the NC Chapter of Pediatric Dentistry as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Fry is on staff of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, where he holds appointment as Senior Emeritus. He is member of and has served as Chairman, Department of Dental and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He serves as a pediatric dentist on the NHRMC Cleft and Craniofacial Team located at the Betty H. Cameron Womenās and Childrenās Hospital.
